CVS Diesel were contacted by the director of FOGO UK, a polish generator manufacturer, as one of their customers, a wellestablished supplier of high quality ready-mix concrete on the banks of the River Thames in Silvertown, East London had purchased a 500kVA generator which was not producing any voltage and was out of the warranty period.

Unfortunately the end client had tried to resolve the issue first by contacting another generator maintenance company. This company could not resolve the issue and the end client were left with a hefty bill and a nonoperational generator.

CVS Diesel were happy to help out and on starting the project our engineers found that the AC alternator was in various stages of being dismantled and was in no state for tests to be carried out to determine what had caused the fault.

Following discussions with the staff it was decided that the best course of action was to remove the generator from site and transport the plant to our large workshop facility in Dover, where the unit could be rebuilt and tested.

On completion of the rebuild we ran full diagnostic checks and tests, to then discover the fault was that the AC alternator stator had failed. The alternator was removed, taken to a local company to be repaired and tested and refitted by ourselves.

Once the alternator was refitted, the generator was loadbank tested at 100% load for a period of 3 hours to ensure all repair works had been carried correctly. The generator was then transported back to site and to the customers delight, put back to work powering concrete pumps.

Richard Allen, CVS Diesel: It’s never great when you arrive on site and realise that someone else has attempted to repair a fault and left the customer’s plant in such a terrible state combined with a very large bill. Conscious of this fact we made sure the works were carried out to a high standard keeping to a tight budget as we were mindful of the fact that the customer and already wasted too much time and money.
