CVS PentaPower were contacted by the owners of the Carolina sail boat, moored at Chatham Maritime Marina in Kent, who wanted to upgrade the engine with a higher horse power to make their regular trips to France safer in the event of rough weather conditions. They asked CVS PentaPower to supply, install and commission a new engine and sail drive repower package.

Following discussions with the owner in regards to an appropriate replacement it was decided to use a Volvo Penta D1-13 engine and sail drive repower package as this provides reduced sound level and low cruising rpm which gives quiet running and low vibrations.

Once the marina crane was booked in to make the crucial lifts, the Carolina was removed from the water and cleaned ready for our engineers to get to work.

Due to the small space surrounding the engine, extra care was needed to ensure that the boat wasn’t damaged by the removal of the old engine and sail drive. Our engineers ensured that it was removed delicately and with precision, relying on the expertise of the crane driver and his banksman.

The new engine and sail drive needed to be fitted with the same sensitivity and accuracy as the removal of the old one. Again using the skills of the crane driver and our specialist engineers, and to the delight of the owner, this was done without any difficulties followed by the installation of all auxiliary equipment.

Following installation of the engine, sail drive package and auxiliary equipment our CVS PentaPower Volvo trained commissioning engineer carried out the sea trial and engine commissioning. After a successful 3 hour sea trial the engine was signed off and the happy client was looking forward to his next trip!
